Submission concerning the Universal Periodic Review of Pakistan

I. INTRODUCTION In its second periodic review in 2012, Pakistan had pledged to enact laws against torture and enforced disappearances. To date however, no laws have been enacted; rather, both torture and disappearances are on the rise. Pakistan has earlier been reviewed on its human rights situation twice: during the first cycle for the years 2006 to 2012, and during the second cycle for the years 2012 to 2016. A total of 166 recommendations were received in different thematic areas during the reviews, of which Pakistan accepted 126 and pledged to implement them to improve its human rights situation.
